A special homecoming at St. Francis, 68 years in the making

A special homecoming at St. Francis, 68 years in the making

On Monday, April 27, 2026, we were honored to welcome back Pastor Thomas Hill Jr., Class of 1958, whose life has been defined by faith, perseverance, leadership, and service. The first Black graduate of St. Francis High School, Pastor Hill, returned to campus to tour the school, visit with students, and share words of wisdom with our young men.

Joining him were his wife, Mrs. Shirley Hill, and his lifelong friend Mr. Eugene Hegedus, another member of the Class of 1958 and the first Hungarian graduate of St. Francis. Their enduring friendship is living proof of the lifelong brotherhood that forms between our students, even decades past graduation.

From a career in public service with the City of Buffalo to decades of ministry and mentorship, Pastor Hill’s journey is an inspiring example of what it means to live with purpose and compassion. As we look ahead to our centennial in 2027, his visit reminds us that the values of St. Francis continue to shape leaders for generations.
