Our Franciscan Youth Ministry visits the Abbey of the Genesee and Mt. Irenaeus

Our Franciscan Youth Ministry visits the Abbey of the Genesee and Mt. Irenaeus

On May 16, The Franciscan Youth Ministry spent the day at the Abbey of the Genesee, a community of two dozen Trappist monks located near Geneseo, NY. The Abbey is well known for its production of Monks' Bread.
Students participated in a talk with Brother Isaac and then joined the entire community of monks in their chapel for noon prayer.
On May 30-31, FYM traveled to Mt. Irenaeus Franciscan retreat center, which is located on 400 acres in the Allegheny Mountains.
As part of the retreat, students spent three hours preparing and serving a meal at the Warming House in Olean, the oldest collegiate student-run soup kitchen in America. Both the Warming Center and Mt. Irenaeus are ministries affiliated with St. Bonaventure University.
