Freshman Basketball vs Canisius

The Freshmen Red Raiders defeated Canisius 37-33 on the road on Thursday night. A strong second half gave the Red Raiders the win as the team never lost faith in their abilities and continued to play hard all game. It was a slow start for the red and white as the team fell behind 10-3 after the 1st quarter. The team was able to tie it up at 10-10 with a 7-0 run in the 2nd quarter before finding themselves down 15-10 at halftime. The opening possession of the 2nd half was not the start the Red Raiders wanted as they turned the ball over and gave up a 3-pointer and a foul giving the Crusaders a 19-10 lead. The Red Raiders chipped away and found a 27-24 deficit heading into the final quarter of action. 8 points from Jaxon Mohawk in the quarter and a huge Aidan McCarthy layup with 30 seconds to go gave the Red Raiders a 36-33 lead. A huge defensive stand by the Red Raiders with 20 seconds left and a Blaise Kolbert free throw gave the Red Raiders a 37-33 lead and the victory. Jaxon Mohawk finished the game with a game high 16 points. Aidan McCarthy had 9 points including 4-4 from the free throw line. Gavin Calkins gave the team a much needed boost of energy and had 5 points. Darnell Dallas had 3 points, Max Carter had 2 points, and Blaise Kolbert and Markus Stahlka each had 1 point to round out the scoring. The Red Raiders now sit with a 4-1 MMAA league with 2 league games left, at St. Joe's and home versus Canisius. The Red Raiders are 8-4 overall with two non-league games left, at Aquinas and at Clarence.
