Freshman Basketball vs Lancaster

What a way to start the season, as the Freshmen Red Raiders come back from a 24-5 halftime score and defeat the Legends of Lancaster 53-49 in overtime. The Red Raiders started the game as cold as a Buffalo winter falling behind 15-0 after one quarter of play and saw the Lancaster lead push to 19-0 before the Red Raiders got on the board. The lead for Lancaster reached a game high 22 points during the quarter before the two teams headed to halftime with a 24-5 score. A deep breath and calm team huddle during halftime set the tone for the second half as the young Red Raiders finally hit some shots and outscored Lancaster 23-7 in the quarter and trailed 31-28 entering the final stanza. The Red Raiders continued to chip away and found themselves tied at 45-45 at the end of regulation. In overtime, the team outscored Lancaster 8-4 and came away with an incredible 53-49 overtime victory. An amazing display of poise and resiliency allowed the Red Raiders to come away with the comeback win. John Mallory led the way with 17 points and Anthony Giardina had 16 points in the win. Charlie Rooney had 9 points, Ben Michalski had 7 points, Shane Colley had 2 points Ryan Hilton added 1 point, and Brycen Pace added 1 point in the win. The Red Raiders travel to Rochester on Saturday night to face-off against Aquinas with tip-off set for 5 pm.
