Track & Field Wins Will South Invite

St. Francis Track & Field Wins the Williamsville South Invite coming from 24.66 points behind to win by .33 points. Joe Pivarunas wins the mile while Marcus Harrison’s wins the shotput Saturday May 16th The St. Francis Track & Field Team found a way Saturday to overcome the brutal heat & humidity along with a 24.66 deficit to win the Williamsville South Invite May 16th. The margin of victory of .33 points is the smallest margin of victory in school history for an invite. The win was over 27 boys schools entered. Every point counted as numerous athletes stepped up to help the team to the title. The meet was called due to the weather with one event left and St. Francis ahead by .33 after they wiped out a 24.66 deficit with the last 3 events scored. Leading the comeback was Marcus Harrison who won the shotput with Logan Reaska placing 3rd. Juniors Aiden Thomas and Erik Shattenberg placed 3rd and 5th in the triple jump. Senior Chris Jozwiak gutted out the 2 mile in a career mark breaking 11:00 and placing 7th and scoring 2 critical points. Joe Pivarunas won the mile with an impressive finish to run a best time of 4:34.67 was the other event winner for the Red Raiders. Every point mattered Saturday and the team was competitive throughout the afternoon. Meet Summary • Sophomore Marcus Harrison wins the shotput with his best throw of 49’9 while Junior Logan Reaska throws a career best 43’10.5 to place 3rd. Harrison throws 138’9 to place 2nd in the discus. He was the leading scorer for the Red Raiders Saturday. • Senior Joe Pivarunas runs a career best time of 4:34.67 to win the open mile with an impressive final lap move on the back stretch. Frosh Mike Stadler runs his career best of 4:51.37 to place 7th. • Junior Bryce Roberts jumps 19’9 in the long jump a career best. He places 2nd in the event. • Aiden Thomas jumps a season best 40’9.25 in triple jump to place 3rd in the event while Junior Erik Shattenberg’s final jump of 39’0 places him 5th overall in the triple. • Erik Shattenberg jumps a season best 5’8 to place 4th in the high jump while Frosh Joe Littlejohn clears 5’6 on his last attempt to finish 8th overall and earn .33 points in the process. • Junior Andrew Krug places 4th in the 110HH with a time of 17.15. Krug also guts out the 400IH with a time of 1:04.34 to place 5th in the event. • 4 x 800 relay of Mike Stadler (2:04 split), Chris Jozwiak, Matt Sheehan and Anthony Giardina run a time of 8:49.49 to places 4th in the event. • Senior Mike Durski runs to a 4th place finsih in the 400m running a season best time of 52.50. • 4 x 100 relay of Mike Durski, Sam Hallmark, Bryce Roberts, & Logan Reaska run 46.58 to place 7th in the 4 x 100 relay • Junior Sam Hallmark runs 23.88 to place 7th in the 200m. He won his heat and ran faster than 2 of the athletes in the final heat. • Senior Chris Jozwiak guts out a career best time in the 3200m to finish 7th in the event with a time of 10:59.89. His 2 pts is the last points St. Francis scores on the track. • 4 x 400 of Steve Otremba, Erik Shattenberg, Joe Pivarunas and Mike Durski are warming up for the final race when thunder lightning force a stoppage of the invite. After the 3rd extension of the delay, meet director with officials decide to call the meet. With that decision St. Francis after scoring the Triple Jump and Shotput take a .33 lead over 2nd place. This is the smallest margin of victory for St. Francis at an Invitation in school history of Track and Field. A gutty effort by this group who dealt with hot & humid conditions all day in Williamsville prior to the stoppage due to lightning.
