St. Francis Track & Field WINS All Catholic Title for the 4th Consecutive Season & sets new record for points scored by St. Francis in the All Catholic with 224.
The St. Francis Track & Field 2022 Season will be remembered as the first time that St. Francis Track and Field Team won the All Catholic Title for the 4th consecutive time and with the team’s win St. Francis set a record for most team points in school history at the All Catholic with 224pts besting the 2021 team’s effort of 221pts.  Sophomore Marcus Harrison set the Shotput School Record for the 4th time this spring with his 51-11.75 effort and also won the Discus.  Joe Pivarunas won the mile, 2 mile open races along with anchoring the 4 x 800 and 4 x 400 relays to victory.  Andrew Krug was team’s high scorer for the All Catholic earning All Catholic honors in the Long and Triple Jump while placing 2nd in High Jump when teammate Bryce Roberts clears 6-0 to take the event.  The team’s depth and talent was on full display Saturday with heat and humidity making conditions difficult followed by Sunday’s damp and 50s weather impacting the performances day 2.  The team finished in strong fashion and with the win made history for St. Francis Track & Field being the first team to win regular season & All Catholic Titles 4 straight years from 2018 to 2022.  The 2020 Season was cancelled due to Covid.
Meet Summary
  • Anthony Giardina, Michael Stadler, Chris Jozwiak & Joe Pivarunas won the 4 x 800 in a time of 8:47.70.  Anchor Pivarunas cruised home to the win with the first 3 legs giving him an insurmountable lead to win the event.
  • Sophomore Marcus Harrison wins the shotput resetting the school record for the 4th time this spring with his throw of 51’11.75.  Juniors Logan Reaska PRs with his throw of 44’4 and Matt Stadler breaks 40 feet with his 40’4 PR.  St. Francis goes 1-2-3 in the Shotput.  Frosh Soph winner Romeo Valle throws a PR of 41’4 to win the event and Frosh Ethan Farley places 3rd.
  • Junior Andrew Krug wins the long jump with his best of 20’9 doing so on his last jump to move from 3rd to first.  Aiden Thomas jumped 19’11 to place 2nd and Bryce Roberts jumped 18’7.75 to place 6th.  Dominic Davis won the Frosh Soph Long Jump with his 17’0.25 effort. 
  • Senior Joe Pivarunas held off competition from St. Joe’s and Canisius to win the 3200m open with a time of 10:21.30.  Nathan Phillips ran 10:48.06 to place 4th and Chris Jozwiak places 6th running 11:00.2.  Patrick Roof won the Frosh Soph 3200m with a time of 12:05.06.
  • Junior Bryce Roberts cleared 6’0 on his first attempt at the height to win the High Jump in thrilling fashion.  Teammates cheered both Roberts and Andrew Krug as they battled for the title after they were the last 2 jumpers after 5’10.  Erik Shattenberg placed 5th clearing 5’6.
  • Day One finishes with St. Francis with 88 points.
  • Marcus Harrison wins the Discus with his best throw of 130’3 in damp wet conditions.  Harrison has won 3 All Catholics in just 2 years.  Gerard Eberl places 2nd with his 114’2 effort and Junior John Mallory throws his best of 98’0 to place 3rd.  St. Francis goes 1-2-3 in the discus and the group scores 48 points over 2 days.  Romeo Valle throws his best of 90-0 to take home the frosh-soph title and sweeps both throws.
  • Andrew Krug jumps 40’10 to take the triple jump in water logged conditions.  Erik Shattenberg jumps 39’11 on his 5th attempt to move from 5th to 2nd Place.  Aiden Thomas guts out a 39’0.75 to place 4th in the event.  Chadd English wins the Triple Jump while Nathan Powers places 2nd in the frosh-soph triple jump. 
  • Frosh Mike Stadler runs a career best time of 2:03.11 to place 2nd in the open 800m.  A huge effort for the Freshman who has made a huge impact for the squad this spring. Senior Chris Jozwiak places 5th running 2:11.45.
  • Junior Sam Hallmark goes all out and runs out of time to place 2nd in the 100m running 11.60 in the finals.  Dylan Walker place 3rd running 11.82 while Bryce Roberts 11.90 finishes 5th and Mike Durski 11.95 places 6th in the 100m.  Joe Littlejohn and Maximus Struniolo go 2-3 in the frosh-soph 100m on Saturday.
  • Senior Mike Durski wins going away in the 400m open winning in a time of 53.02.  Teammate Junior Steve Otremba improved on his qualifying mark and grabbed 2nd in the event with his time of 54.77.  Dalton Pelow’s time of 56.51 led a sweep of 1-2-3 in the frosh-soph 400m with Dominic Davis and Luke Wickett backing up Pelow in the event.
  • Senior Joe Pivarunas refuses to lose as he retakes the lead in the last lap with 300m left and holds off all challengers to win the open mile in 4:42.75.  Nathan Phillips runs 4:57.49 to place 5th in the event while Anthony Giardina breaks 5 minutes for the first time in his career with his time of 4:59.69.  Patrick Roof win the frosh-soph mile in a time of 5:21.19.
  • Junior Logan Reaska earns a 3rd place in 200m running 24.54.  Sam Hallmark is 4th running 24.57 while Dylan Walker places 5th with his time of 24.72 and Erik Shattenberg places 6th running 24.81.
  • 4 x 400 relay got off to a great start with Steve Otremba running his 53.7 split and allowing Mike Durski, Erik Shattenberg & Joe Pivarunas to bring home All Catholic honors with their winning time of 3:43.52.  With the win Senior Joe Pivarunas earns his record tying 7th All Catholic honor tying 2012 St. Francis Grad Andrew Hayes for most in a St. Francis Track & Field Career.  Frosh Soph 4 x 400 Relay of Dominic Davis, David Spadone, Dalton Pelow & Patrick Roof win the event running 4:06.12
  • 4 x 100 relay of Mike Durski, Dylan Walker, Bryce Roberts & Logan Reaska overcame some mistimed passes to take the event with their winning time of 46.37.  Senior Mike Durski earns his 6th All Catholic honor for his career.  Mike matches Brian Ferris ’00, Jacob Dylik ’08, Akeel Lynch ’12 & now Assistant Coach Alex Schaffstall ’12 with 6 All Catholics 2nd All Time.  Frosh Soph 4 x 100 was won by the St. Francis relay of Dalton Pelow, Joe Littlejohn, Aidan Pacholec & Maximus Sturniolo.  Relay B of Brayden Mahoney, Luke Wickett, Ben Siler & Maximus Sturniolo placed 3rd in the relay event.
  • St. Francis Track & Field wins the All Catholic scoring 224pts surpassing the team’s 2021 point total of 221 that stood as the School’s record for point at the All Catholic.  It is St. Francis’ 4th consecutive All Catholic Title coupled with it 4th Consecutive Regular Season Title.  It is the First Time in program history the team accomplished this feat.
