Fine Arts

The art and design student, the student musician or thespian, guided by an active, well-trained faculty, participates in a variety of required and elective course offerings. He can expect to become critically aware of the rich cultural and artistic past, and at the same time, challenged to become a thoughtful contributor to the beauty of contemporary culture and society. And the form that his contribution takes can be as varied as playing the lead in the spring musical, playing trombone in our award winning jazz ensemble, singing with our Men's Choir, or crafting a piece of fine jewelry.

Our Fine Arts facilities include an 800 seat theatre complete with orchestra pit, dressing rooms, instrumental instruction and rehearsal rooms. In addition, the Mary Schneider art studio which is located in Friars' Hall.

Visual Arts

We offer a comprehensive and dynamic Visual Arts program that is integral to our Franciscan educational philosophy. Emphasizing the development of the whole person, the program encourages students to explore their creativity and artistic talents while fostering critical thinking, self-expression, and cultural awareness.

Students have the opportunity to work in a variety of artistic disciplines, including:

  • Studio Art – A foundational course where students explore multiple mediums and techniques while developing their personal artistic voice.
  • Photography – Digital and traditional photography courses introduce students to the art of capturing meaningful imagery through both technical and creative lenses.
  • Drawing & Painting – Students study form, color theory, perspective, and composition, using a variety of materials to build both skill and confidence in their artistic abilities.
  • Sculpture – This hands-on course allows students to explore three-dimensional design through materials such as clay, wire, plaster, and mixed media.

Housed in the Visual Arts Center in Friars' Hall, the program provides a creative and supportive environment for students of all experience levels. Through elective courses, student exhibits, and opportunities to showcase their work, students gain not only technical proficiency but also a deeper appreciation for the role of art in society.

The Visual Arts Program at St. Francis is more than just a series of classes—it's a journey of personal growth, self-discovery, and creative confidence.
