JV Football vs Burgard

Date of contest: 9/20/2018

The St. Francis Red Raiders JV football team improved their record to 4-0 with a convincing 42-0 win vs. the visiting Burgard Bulldogs. The Red Raiders opened the scoring in the 1st quarter, when RB Vincent Monaco completed a 20 yard St. Francis scoring drive with a 1 yard TD run. The PAT failed, leaving St. Francis with a 6-0 lead. In the 2nd quarter, LB Conor Black blocked a Burgard punt, giving the Red Raiders possession at the Burgard 23 yard line. The Red Raiders scored on the next play as QB Jack Bestpitch hit RB Colton Evoniuk with a 23 yard TD pass. QB Jack Bestpitch ran in for the PAT, giving St. Francis a 14-0 lead.

On Burgard’s next possession, DL Jack Demeo, with a great pass rush, hurried the Burgard QB into throwing a pass which was intercepted by DL Jason Lowry who returned the interception 20 yards down to the Burgard 4 yard line. On the next play, RB Kimal Clark ran in for a 4 yard TD. The PAT was successful as QB Bestpitch hit RB Clark with a pass, giving St. Francis a 22-0 lead. On Burgard’s next possession, DB Anthony Gomez and DB Noah Gallagher stopped an attempt by the Burgard punter to run for the first down. Taking over on downs at the Burgard 20 yard line, St. Francis scored on a 3 play drive, when QB Noah Workman hit TE Mason Vail for a 8 yard TD pass with 35 seconds remaining in the 1st half. K Jack Raymond kicked the PAT, giving the Red Raiders a 29-0 halftime lead.

Due to the outstanding play of the Red Raider defense, the St. Francis offense started their five 1st half drives at the Burgard 22,20,23,4, and 20 yard lines. DB Jack Raymond has 2 nice pass breakups to help the defense in the first half of play and Conor Black had 2 punt blocks which all contributed to give St. Francis outstanding field position in the first half.

In the 3rd quarter, QB Jack Bestpitch hit a short pass to RB Kimal Clark, who ran down the far right sideline for a 55 yard scoring play. WR Shane Roberts and RB Colton Evoniuk threw great blocks to allow
Clark to reach the end zone. K Jack Raymond kicked the PAT, giving St. Francis a 36-0 lead. RB Dylan Mack completed the scoring in the 3rd quarter with a 5 yard TD run. St. Francis attempted a drop kick for the PAT, but it was unsuccessful. There was no scoring in the 4th quarter, leaving St. Francis with a 42-0 win over the Burgard Bulldogs.

Once again, it was the swarming Red Raider defense who dominated the game. In 4 games this season, opponents have only scored a total of 16 points, (avg. 4 pts. / game) including back to back shutouts. Leading the defense with 6 tackles each were LB Conor Black, LB Dylan Mack, LB Hayden Marling and LB Gavin Calkins. Pitching in with 5 tackles each were DL Joe Black, DB Anthony Gomez and DB Tyler Drozdowski. DB Maxwell Carter helped to preserve the shutout with an outstanding effort, chasing and tackling a Burgard receiver from behind. The play was the closest that Burgard came to breaking up the St. Francis shutout effort.
